Sarah Myerscough is an artist based in the North West of England and currently working for Blackpool Illuminations.Her website is a showcase of her work at the Illuminations and previously as a model maker / artist at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and includes dozens of behind the scenes photos

Her own artwork is also offered for sale and the site features a timeline of her career in art so far.

Illuminated road features of the Doctor, Oods, Sontaran Companions, etc.. along with animated 3D Daleks and Tardis have been lighting up Blackpool promenade from September to November, with more characters being added each year. Well worth a visit!

Being a “Sandgrown” born and bred in Blackpool I did used to think that everybody in the entire planet must have heard of the Blackpool Illuminations, of course as i’ve grown old and bald I’ve realised that Blackpool is in fact not the center of the entire universe and not everybody on the planet knows about this fantistic free lights display.

The Blackpool Illuminations is an annual festival of lighs abd has been a popular tourist attraction since they were first illuminated on 18th September 1879. They always run through the Autumn and when switched off, that marks the end of the Blackpool tourist season.

                          The Blackpool Illuminations or simply “lights” as they are known locally normally run for exactly sixty days, they run for six miles (almost 10km) they are not simply rows of bulbs (as they were during their first years) The Illuninations include state of the art laser shows and displays and illuminated trams which frun on tracks along the promenade.

Each year the Blackpool Illuminations have a “Big Switch On” which takes place from a custom built stadium from BBC Radio 2. Last year the switch on was made by DAVID TENNANT to mark the lates series of Doctor Who and also the new DOCTOR WHO Illuminations displays.

The switch on was a phenomenal success and thousands turned up to see David Tennant, and with the Hyde Fundraisers just to the front of the stadium at the Doctor Who Museum we had an amazingky busy evening with the last visitors coming into the museum just after midnight!

Due to the amazing feedback from the Doctor Who Illuminations Displays they have been expanded for this years switch on (which will take place August 29th and be switched on By Boyzone and the BBC2 TOP GEAR TEAM) to include full-size TARDIS and DALEK displays, but just to wet your apetites, here are a few of the displays from the 2007 event!

So whats available?

Well the first batch of releases is a nice mixture of monsters v’s doctors and I really find trouble in finding a favourite, so here they are in no particular order.

On Bank Holiday Monday (25th August 2008) we are delighted to announce the arrival of SYLVESTER McCOY and the Hyde FundRaisers to the Doctor Who Museum.

Sylvester will be meeting his fans on the day we’ll be running Competitions and Signings so your sure to be in for a fantastic time! The Hyde Fundraisers are no stranger to the Blackpool Museum and aways offer a fun day for the whole family to enjoy, who can forget the fun antics during the 2007 Illuminations switch on when monsters and robots ran wild through the corridors, and davros (unaware of his forthcoming doom) terrorised our customers into taking photos of his ugly mug!

The fun starts at around 11am and there are sure to be many suprises in store, so get yourself down the museum for a great days entertainment!

It was a sad day when Blackpool closed the TARDIS doors on the Doctor Who Museum Back in the 1990’s So it was great news when we discovered the Doctor Was Returning, BIGGER and Better than before!

The Doctor Who Museum will be open from 10.30am till 5pm 7 days a week throughout the summer season, and with special events and suprise monster appearances during 2008 we’re in for a fantastic year.

Whats in the Museum?

A Massive Collection of fascinating memorobilia and props from the BBC science fiction series from its beginnings way back in 1963 right up to the  new episodes. Many of the Doctor’s famous enemies appear in all their glory including the Cybermen, Daleks, the Yeti, Ice Warrior, Silurian, Davros and many more.

These are the actual BBC props set together with fascinating items from the wardrobe and design departments. In addition you can see many of the actual costumes worn by the Doctors and the assistants plus video clips from throughout the programme’s history including the different title sequences from the original ghostly Hartnell version onwards.

The museum is a treasure trove for any lover of Doctor Who and those eager to see what has made this the longest running science fiction programme in the world. At over 5500 square feet in size there’s more than you might expect around every corner.

HOW TO FIND THE BLACKPOOL DOCTOR WHO MUSEUM
