Dreamland – BBC Animated Adventure

The six-part series, titled Dreamland, will premiere on the Doctor Who website and via the BBC Red Button service in the autumn, before being broadcast on BBC Two as part of CBBC. It will also be available on the BBC HD channel.
In Dreamland, Tennant’s Time Lord visits Roswell, the area in New Mexico rumoured to be the site of an alien landing. During a visit to a local diner, he stumbles across a mysterious alien artefact and ends up battling the evil Viperox and the US military.

Georgia Moffett voices the character of Cassie Rice, the Doctor’s companion. David Warner plays the leader of the ruthless Viperox.

The 45-minute long adaptation is written by Phil Ford, who has scripted episodes of Doctor Who, Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures.

Russell T Davies, Dreamland’s executive producer and the writer who brought Doctor Who back to the screen, said: “Dreamland is a remarkable project and I’m thrilled with it. Phil Ford is a wonderful writer and promises to send the Doctor into a whole new visual dimension.”

Back in the real world, Tennant will continue to play the Doctor in a series of special episodes before handing over to Matt Smith, who will take over the role in 2010.

The trailer to the episode has already come out and it doesn’t really shed to much light on the story except that it’s going to be weird. Oh and the Doctor is without his TARDIS for this episode.

Look Who it is ... Lee Evans as boffin on Doctor Who Easter special

EVANS above — those glasses are just unbe-Lee-vable.

Mysterious boffin Malcolm — played by funnyman Lee Evans — gurns as he peers through his binoculars in Doctor Who Easter special The Planet Of The Dead.

And Spaced actress Jessica Hynes also returns to the show.

Jess, who previously starred as Joan Redfern, plays writer Verity Newman — after bosses failed to tempt Harry Potter author JK Rowling with the role.

Verity — named after show creators Verity Lambert and Sydney Newman — will anger the doc, played by David Tennant, by releasing his book Journal Of Impossible Things.

The Sun reports that Billie Piper, who played Rose Tyler, Freema Agyeman, who played Martha Jones and Catherine Tate, who played Donna Noble will join forces to take on the Doctor’s arch rival The Master (John Simm) in the epsiode which shows David Tennant regenerate into Matt Smith.

“This will be the most exciting episode Doctor Who have ever done,” an insider said. “Getting Billie to agree is a real coup, but she loved working on the show so much it didn’t take much convincing,” they continued.

Murray, who has had very limited screen time in her young years outside of her role in the British television series “Skins,” is apparently the choice of Steven Moffat to join Smith when the series begins producing regular episodes again in 2010.

The rumor hasn’t been confirmed by BBC, but if it’s true, Murray will join a long list of companions, that in the modern era included Billie Piper, Freema Agyeman and Catherine Tate.

Tate’s Donna Noble first appeared in the second Christmas special of the new series, and returned in the fourth season in a critic’s favorite storyline that resulted in the character’s “death.”

Accompanying the companion reports is a story from Dark Horizons that BBC is planning just two specials in 2009, and not three as originally planned. That will include Easter’s “Planet of the Dead” starring David Tennant and Michelle Ryan, and this year’s Christmas special, which features Tennant and Lindsay Duncan, and marks the return of the Ood.

The third special has been pushed to early 2010, possibly as early as New Year’s Day, and will be the final episode for Tennant, who will leave the series before the fifth season starts in 2010. The episode will take place on Mars, and will feature Peter O’Brien as the villain, according to reports.

Much of this hasn’t been confirmed by BBC, so until that happens, it should be treated as any rumor would.
